These Dietaries are based upon the existing Dietaries Modified on the lines of the Dietaries in Local Prisons at Home.

In the whole of the Dietaries the existing principle of:- "We at diet will be supplied" on Saturday and Sunday to male prisons with sentences more than six months. & Giving penal or reduced penal diet will be applied on every Saturday and Sunday:- to female prisoners of 16 years of age and boys under 16. With sentences over six months during the first six months of imprisonment. To all prisoners rigorously sentenced to imprisonment for a period of three months and upwards, and to all prisoners with sentences of six months and upwards, but not over 1st day. First during the first three days of imprisonment and of giving penal or reduced penal diet to all prisoners on Saturdays and Sundays.

In accordance with Rule 2357, the existing regulations which read as per original has been abandoned for the following reason.

By Rule 2357, a prisoner on hard labour diet cannot be placed on penal diet. The result is that the prisoners who are sent to Gaol for short days with hard labour cannot be put to hard labour at all but just be employed at picking Oakum or some other form of light labour; and that if they are idle or ill-conducted they cannot be punished by being put to harder labour nor in the Case of Chinese prisoners, with the proper effect by the infliction of dietary punishment, for the difference between the reduced penal and ordinary diet is...
